1. Introduction and Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how Jose Consulting Limited ("JCL", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects personal data when you use the JoseOceanJobs platform at joseoceanjobs.com (the "Platform"). Capitalised terms used in this Privacy Policy have the meanings given in our Definition of Terms, available at joseoceanjobs.com/definition-of-terms, unless otherwise defined below.

This Privacy Policy applies to personal data processed through joseoceanjobs.com, our registration and candidate dashboard systems, our contact and enquiry forms, our event registration pages, and any related services described in our Terms of Service.
This Privacy Policy is issued in accordance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 ("NDPA") and aligns with generally accepted international data protection principles.

- Training and certification data: enrolment details, attendance records, and completion status for training programmes booked through the Platform.

- Technical data: IP address, browser type, device information, and usage data collected automatically when you visit the Platform.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal data such as health information, biometric data, or government identification numbers unless you voluntarily submit such data as part of a certification document or as required for a specific service (for example, medical fitness certificates required by certain maritime employers). Where this occurs, we treat such data with heightened care in accordance with the NDPA.
4. How We Collect Your Data
We collect personal data in the following ways:
- Directly from you, when you register an account, complete your profile, apply for a job, enrol in a training programme, submit a contact form enquiry, or register for an event.
- Automatically, through your use of the Platform, including cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 14).
- From third parties, where you choose to sign in or register using Google or Microsoft (see Section 9), or where an Employer or partner organisation shares information with us in connection with a recruitment, training, or service engagement.

6. Legal Basis for Processing
Under the NDPA, we rely on the following legal bases to process your personal data:
- Consent: where you have given clear consent for us to process your data for a specific purpose, such as agreeing to this Privacy Policy at registration.
- Contractual necessity: where processing is necessary to provide the Services you have requested, such as facilitating a job application or training enrolment.
- Legitimate interest: where processing is necessary for our legitimate business interests, such as improving the Platform or preventing fraud, provided this does not override your fundamental rights.
- Legal obligation: where processing is necessary to comply with applicable Nigerian law or regulatory requirements.
You may withdraw consent at any time where consent is the basis for processing, by contacting us using the details in Section 19. This will not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
8. Partner-Based Service Delivery
Many of the marine and business services available through the Platform, including crew management, ship chandelling, marine procurement, marine insurance, marine travel management, and mobilisation services, are delivered through a network of vetted third-party partners. As described in Section 3.2 of our Terms of Service, JCL remains the sole client-facing point of contact, and the identity of delivery partners is not disclosed to Clients.
Where your data is shared with a delivery partner to fulfil a service you have requested, JCL requires that partner to handle your data securely and to use it solely for the purpose of delivering that service. JCL remains responsible for coordinating service delivery and for ensuring partner organisations meet appropriate data handling standards.
Because our partner network may change over time as JCL formalises and updates partnership arrangements, we do not name specific partners in this Privacy Policy. If you would like more information about how your data is handled by a specific delivery partner in connection with a service you have requested, you may contact us using the details in Section 19.
9. Third-Party Sign-In Services
The Platform allows you to register or sign in using your Google or Microsoft account. If you choose this option, those providers will share certain account information with us (such as your name and email address) to create or access your Platform account, in accordance with their own privacy policies and your settings with those providers.
We do not receive your Google or Microsoft account password, and we encourage you to review the privacy practices of Google and Microsoft directly to understand how they handle your data.
10. International Data Transfers
As JoseOceanJobs connects Nigerian and African talent with international maritime and energy employers, your personal data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside Nigeria, including where an Employer, training provider, or delivery partner is located overseas.
Where such transfers occur, we take reasonable steps to ensure your data continues to receive an appropriate level of protection, consistent with the requirements of the NDPA, including through contractual safeguards with the receiving party where appropriate.
11. Data Retention
We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, including to provide the Services, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
- Candidate profile and application data is generally retained for as long as your account remains active, and for a reasonable period afterward in case you reapply or re-engage with the Platform.
- Data relating to a completed service engagement or training programme is retained in accordance with applicable record-keeping obligations.
- Contact form and event registration data is retained only as long as needed to respond to your enquiry or manage the event.
Where you request deletion of your data under Section 13, we will delete or anonymise it unless we are required to retain it for legal, regulatory, or legitimate business purposes.
12. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include encrypted password storage, access controls, and secure data transmission.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. While we work to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security, and you share information with us at your own risk.

- Correction: request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
- Deletion: request that we delete your personal data, subject to our legal and contractual retention obligations.

- Objection: object to our processing of your data where it is based on legitimate interest.
- Data portability: request a copy of your data in a structured, commonly used format, where technically feasible.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 19. We will respond within the timeframe required by the NDPA. We may need to verify your identity before actioning certain requests.

The Platform is not directed at, and is not intended for use by, individuals under the age of 18. In accordance with Section 4.1 of our Terms of Service, you must be at least 18 years of age to register an account. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected such data, we will take steps to delete it promptly.
