Programme overview
What you'll learn
The Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) course prepares offshore personnel to survive a helicopter ditching incident by practising controlled underwater escape in a safe, supervised pool environment.
What You Will Learn
- Pre-flight safety briefing and offshore helicopter protocols
- Brace positions and emergency exit procedures during ditching
- Breath-hold and orientation techniques underwater
- Escaping from an inverted, submerged helicopter simulator
- Donning and inflating a lifejacket in the water
- Use of Emergency Breathing Systems (EBS/HEED bottle) underwater
- Sea survival after escape: signalling, group huddle, and rescue coordination
Who Should Attend
This course is mandatory for all personnel — engineers, technicians, contractors, and visitors — who travel to offshore platforms, FPSOs, or rigs by helicopter over water.
Delivery & Certification
One day of pool-based practical training at an OPITO-approved facility. Participants complete multiple live dunker rotations. Graduates receive an OPITO HUET certificate, which is a prerequisite for offshore access at most international and Nigerian operators.
