Programme overview

What you'll learn


The Pre-Departure Training Course is the essential preparatory programme for personnel entering the marine and energy sectors, equipping them with the safety knowledge, operational procedures, and industry regulations required before deployment to offshore and remote work environments.

Course Modules

Over an intensive and practical learning period, you cover seven core modules:

  1. Introduction & Overview – purpose of pre-departure training, overview of marine and offshore energy operations, roles and responsibilities of personnel, and the importance of safety and compliance
  2. Emergency Response & Survival Training – fire prevention and firefighting techniques, emergency alarms and response procedures, lifeboat and life raft drills, man overboard procedures, helicopter safety and evacuation, and sea survival techniques
  3. Medical & Fitness Requirements – pre-employment medical examination (PEME), fitness standards for offshore and marine duty, drug and alcohol policy compliance, fatigue management, and mental health and stress awareness
  4. Logistics & Travel Procedures – travel documentation including passport, visa, and seaman's book, offshore permits and IDs, baggage guidelines, airport and base check-in procedures, and helicopter transfer safety briefing
  5. Communication & Reporting – use of onboard communication systems, reporting structure and chain of command, incident and near-miss reporting, and daily operational log management
  6. Cultural Awareness & Teamwork – working in multicultural environments, English as the standard operational language, professional conduct and discipline, and conflict resolution onboard
  7. Welfare & Living Conditions – accommodation arrangements on vessels and platforms, food and catering systems, recreational facilities, and communication access for personnel

Delivery & Certification

Delivered by experienced marine and energy industry professionals through structured classroom sessions, practical drills, and scenario-based assessments. On successful completion, you receive a Pre-Departure Training certificate recognised by employers across the maritime and energy sectors.
